Revenue code 0370
Anesthesia department charge
The hospital's charge for anesthesia services and equipment in the operating room: the machine, the gases, the monitoring, the anesthesia technician. It is not the anesthesiologist's fee, which comes on a separate bill under a 5-digit anesthesia code (00100 to 01999).
Where this line goes wrong
Two anesthesia charges is normal, three is not
A hospital line (0370) plus a professional anesthesia bill is the standard pair. A third anesthesia charge, for example both an anesthesiologist and a nurse anesthetist each billing the full service, is worth a question about medical direction modifiers.
Billed by time, like the room
Hospital anesthesia charges are usually time-based and should track the anesthesia record's start and stop times, which are often shorter than the operating room times.

- 1
Ask for the anesthesia record and compare its times with the 0370 units.
- 2
Check that the professional anesthesia bill and the 0370 line are for the same procedure and date.
- 3
If sedation was given by the surgeon rather than a separate anesthesia provider, ask why an anesthesia department line exists.

Is 0370 the anesthesiologist's bill?
No. The anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist bills separately with a CPT anesthesia code. 0370 is the hospital's charge for the anesthesia room resources.

This page explains a billing code in general terms. It is not a coding, legal or medical opinion about your bill, and the code descriptions are mediloop's own plain-English summaries, not the official CPT descriptors, which are owned by the American Medical Association. Whether a charge was correct depends on the record of your visit and your payer's rules.
